The thrift shelf is stocked with donated books. If you have books you've finished with, email us or message us on WhatsApp and we'll tell you how to get them to us in Jos.
About the Bookstore
The COAL Bookstore is a social enterprise run by the Custodians of African Literature Initiative (COAL), a nonprofit in Jos, Plateau State. Proceeds from every book sold help children in underserved communities stay in school. Buying a book and making a donation are separate: to give, visit our Donate page. More about COAL.

Questions
Can I visit a physical shop?
We are an online bookstore. You can collect your order free in Jos; we'll message you with the details when it's ready. Or choose delivery at checkout.
How do pre-orders work?
Pre-order titles are not ready for immediate dispatch. Check the release date and expected dispatch information on the book's page before paying. Payment is taken when you order. For an update or cancellation request, contact us with your order reference. If you need other books sooner, place them in a separate order.
Can you get a book that isn't listed?
What does "Available to order" mean?
Books marked "Available to order" are ordered in for you and take a little longer to reach you.
How do I pay?
At checkout you go to Paystack's secure page and pay by card, bank transfer or USSD. We never see your card details. You can also use a COAL Bookstore gift card, on its own or with another payment.
Do I need an account?
No. Your basket and wishlist are saved in your browser on this device. Your receipt comes by email.
I started an order but didn't finish. Is my basket saved?
Yes, on the device you used. If you choose basket reminders at checkout, we will send up to two emails with a link back. This is separate from our newsletter.
How do e-books work?
Where a book has an e-book, you can choose it on the book's page. We email you a download link after payment.
Can I buy books for a school, library or book club?
Yes. Buying for a school, university, book club or event? Tell us the titles and quantities and ask for a quote. Ask for a quote.
